Izzadorzu

A special moment for our community, among the most intimate and meaningful expressions of our religious culture and tradition. It takes place every year on the third Sunday of October and marks an important event: the symbolic handover of service to the Church of Madonna of Itria and the community, by those who, for a whole year, commit to caring not only for the church’s appearance, but above all for the traditions linked to the Madonna’s devotion.

It is a noble gesture, a sign of deep generosity: offering the most precious gift one has… their time.

The most demanding responsibility is to faithfully preserve and pass down the ancient rites, still handed down orally today, such as those celebrated during the feast of the Madonna on Pentecost and the following two days, accompanied by the traditional ardia.

A particularly solemn moment is the moving oath called "su rediamentu", preceded by nine days of novena and the "rosarieddu", recited strictly in Sardinian. The nighttime torchlight procession features a small statue of the Madonna carried through the village.

Those who ask for a grace, or wish to give thanks for a grace received, may carry the small statue around the church, then kneel before the main entrance.

During the nighttime procession, all the churches are lit and keep their doors open.
It is said that those who invoke her… are never left disappointed.
